In his first fight ouside of the United Sattes or Canada, WBC #9 ranked light welterweight and previously fringe lightweight contedner «Hammering» Hank Lundy gave a stern test to WBC #3 ranked Ukrainian Victor Postol — especially in the later rounds — but lost a close unanimous decision to his counterpart. Postol (now
22-0, 10 KOs) looked superior to the American in the first half of the bout. He was shimmering with confidence, boxing circles around Lundy and scoring constantly with his jab and fast combinations. Lundy (22-3-1, 11 KOs), on the other hand, exploded in the third part of the match-up, pressing Postol and forcing him to pay much more attention to his defense. The end of the bout was contested hotly but Lundy had the upper hand. At the end, it wasn’t enough, and all three judges preffered the Ukrainian with almost identical scorecards:
116-112 (twice) and
116-113. Postol acquired a vacant WBC International light welterweight title.
Highly regarded cruiserweight bomber Dmytro Kucher
(21-0, 15 KOs) took the long road to a well deserved victory, dominating Brazilian veteran Julio Cesar Dos Santos
(22-2, 20 KOs) over twelve rounds. The WBC #4, IBF #6 and WBO #13 ranked Ukrainian was in full control of the fight but didn’t press for a knockout against the opponent, whose only goal was to survive the bout. All three judges had it identically:
120-108 — for Kucher. There were no knockdowns.
Russian crowd-pleaser Marat Kulumbegov (10-0-1, 6 KOs) worked hard to score a unanimous decision over Kazakh import Mikhail «El Khattab» Krinitsin (11-3-2, 7 KOs) in an eight-round super middleweight fight. Scores were:
80-72, 78-74 and
78-75 — for Kulumbegov. Also, super bantamweight Oleg Malinovskiy
(7-0, 2 KOs) compleated a clean sweap of the Kazakh fighter Zhandos Zhetpisbayev
(5-5, 2 KOs) over six:
60-54 (x3).
